Target group

People with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other chronic progressive neurological diseases (PND).

Organisational Information

MS Queensland is a non-profit organisation that aims to be the first-choice for multiple sclerosis (MS) information, education, treatment, care and support across Queensland. Our vision is a world free from MS and its devastating impact. We exist to help people living with MS to get the best out of life; to advocate for change and to search for a cure.

In Queensland, nobody has a better knowledge or understanding of the disease nor assumes a greater role in education and raising awareness of MS than MS Queensland.

As the only service provider specifically for people living with MS in Queensland, we deliver a range of services to people with MS, their families and carers and healthcare professionals. With more than 3,700 people living with MS throughout the State, our services are diverse and increasingly accessible to any person living with MS.

MS Queensland Values

The work performed by MS Queensland and its staff is underpinned by a set of values. These are:

  • Respect – People really matter to us and so we show respect in all our relationships and interactions with others.
  • Hope – We never give up offering real hope, no matter how long it takes or how challenging the situation.
  • Commitment – We always do our best for our clients, our organisation and for each other.
  • Collaboration – We believe the way to achieve great results is by working together.

Host Provider Model

The Regional Service Coordinator Team (RSC) is the first point of contact for people living with MS and PND. The RSC is a professional with specialist knowledge of MS and other PND, and health and community services available to assist people to adjust and cope with living with MS/PND. The RSC meets with people to develop their own holistic Personal Plan as an outcome of an assessment process used by MS Queensland. The RSC works with individuals and their family through this assessment process to assist them to identify their disability related needs, set personal goals and support their choices for actioning their identified needs. The Personal Plan is a tool which remains flexible and open to review as circumstances change.

Included in the Personal Plan will be the client’s potential need for employment of staff, as part of their disability needs. A client working with the Host Provider has a number of options available to them in relation to the employment of workers, ranging from employing their workers directly, to requesting the Host Provider and service providers fulfil the role of employer completely.

MS Queensland has initiated many partnerships and initiatives to address geographical challenges that our clients may face in accessing our services. We will utilise tel-e-health technology in regional health centres to communicate effectively with rural and remote clients, as well as local health and community service providers.
