QFES says Not Now, Not Ever

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is taking a stand against domestic and family violence in several ways.

The top priority is fostering a workplace culture in which the more than 45,000 staff and volunteers of QFES feel safe and supported. Workplace activities include:

  • developing an employee domestic and family violence policy
  • Recognise, Respond, Refer (RRR) training
  • providing assistance via the intranet and existing Peer Support Officers.

The department’s domestic and family violence sub-committee is planning to establish a network of ambassadors. The ambassadors will work as champions of change, educating the public to help end violence, abuse and inequality.

In 2017, in partnership with Australia’s CEO Challenge, all QFES Executive Leadership Team members took part in the Darkness to Daylight Challenge, raising more than $5000. QFES is now looking to partner with other organisations that support domestic and family violence survivors.

The QFES DFV sub-committee is also working towards White Ribbon accreditation.
