July 2016

  • The full rollout of the NDIS officially commences in Queensland on 1 July 2016.

April 2016

  • In the early launch area, the first family receives NDIS funding for disability supports through an approved individual Plan.

March 2016

  • The Queensland and Commonwealth Governments sign a Bilateral Agreement confirming Queensland's NDIS transition.

January 2016

  • The early launch of the NDIS begins in North Queensland. Children and young people with disability aged under 18 years in Townsville and Charters Towers and all eligible people with disability aged under 65 on Palm Island are the first Queenslanders to access the NDIS.

May 2015

  • Queensland NDIS events calendar established to connect Queenslanders with disability, their families and carers, businesses and service providers with NDIS related events across the state.

  • NDIA officers commence in Queensland
  • Queensland NDIS update e-blast established to inform Queenslanders about the Queensland Government's preparation for the NDIS

July 2014

  • 2014-15 State Budget delivers $50 million instalment from $868 million to prepare for NDIS roll-out in Queensland
  • The Queensland Government enters into an MOU with the National Disability Insurance Agency to set up offices in Townsville and Brisbane

June 2014

  • Three contracts awarded to begin NDIS readiness projects agreed under the NDIA Sector Development Fund MOU:
    • $250,000 for building organisational capacity to respond to consumer demand in the NDIS
    • $100,000 for community capacity building in small rural and remote communities
    • $150,000 for community capacity building in discrete and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The Queensland Government has dedicated an additional $10,000 to this initiative
  • In 2013-14, 25 people with disabilities have been approved for funding to transition from long-stay public health facilities
  • More than 1,000 people are benefiting from greater choice and control over their supports through Your Life Your Choice
  • Queensland Government departments develop and publish disability services plans for 2014–16 and continue to take action to improve mainstream services as set out in their disability service plans

  • New Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services’ NDIS website goes live

March 2014

  • Three tenders released to market to get started on projects agreed in the NDIA Sector Development Fund MOU:
    • Community capacity building in small rural and remote communities
    • Community capacity building in discrete and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
    • Building capacity of organisations to respond to consumer demand in the NDIS
  • Queensland Disability Conference held on 24 and 25 March 2014

February 2014

  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Disability Insurance Agency delivers $500,000 from Sector Development Fund for projects to assist providers, rural and remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to be ready for the NDIS
  • Participant readiness projects tender opened to commission projects to assist people to understand the opportunities the NDIS will bring to them and their families
  • Pathways to Leadership to deliver 35 Peer Support sessions across Queensland and to establish peer support networks to provide a forum for people with disability and their families to hear from others who are self-directing their supports under Your Life Your Choice (February 2014 to August 2014)

  • $25 million brought forward from $868 million to assist Queensland to prepare for NDIS roll-out in Queensland
  • Disability Services funding able to be paid directly to people with disability or their relevant person under Your Life Your Choice

June 2013

  • Accredited and non-accredited training to the sector workforce and people with disability, their families and carers to assist in transitioning to the NDIS, as part of the Sector Readiness and Workforce Capacity Initiative delivered by the Health and Community Services Workforce Council and National Disability Services (July 2013 to June 2014)
  • Staffing Options contracted to produce resources to assist people with disability and their families to self-direct their supports under Your Life Your Choice (July 2013 to June 2014)

  • The Queensland Government committed funding of $868 million over six years from 2013-2014 to 2018-2019 to help prepare Queensland for the NDIS
  • Premier signed Intergovernmental Agreement committing to the NDIS in Queensland

November 2012

  • Queensland Government re-affirmed its commitment to the National Disability Strategy 2010-2020
  • Queensland Parliament passed the Disability Services (Your Life Your Choice) Amendment Act 2012
