The NDIS is a new way of providing people with disability across Australia with support to meet their disability needs and link with their community.

The scheme supports people with a permanent and significant disability to take part in everyday activities. This includes people whose disability is an intellectual, sensory or physical impairment, or a psychiatric condition.

Rollout dates

The NDIS will roll out to Rockhampton, Gladstone and west to the borders from 1 January 2018 (from 1 November 2017 for users of existing Queensland Government disability services). This covers the following Local Government Areas:

  • Banana
  • Barcaldine
  • Barcoo
  • Blackall Tambo
  • Central Highlands
  • Diamantina
  • Gladstone
  • Livingstone
  • Longreach
  • Rockhampton
  • Winton
  • Woorabinda.

People with disability in these local government areas can submit a request to access the NDIS from 1 July 2017.

Existing users of Queensland Government funded disability services in this area should move to the NDIS before 30 June 2018. At this time responsibility for providing disability services including funding will move from the Queensland Government to the NDIS.

Turning 65

Applicants must be under 65 years old on the date their request to access the NDIS is received by the National Disability Insurance Agency.
